Deborah Niederer Saxon, Ph.D.
Program Director
Pronouns – She/Her/Hers
I have been active in CIC since moving to Indiana more than ten years ago. The Festival of Faiths was taking place the very first week that I arrived in town, and it immediately made me feel at home in returning to the heartland of the Hoosiers. I originally did a masters in English/applied linguistics at IU and then taught English to diverse speakers of other languages both here in the US and in Japan—where my husband, John, and I have lived three different times. After moving to Colorado, I was able to explore my interest in religious diversity, and I earned a PhD in theological and religious studies from the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology. Over the past decade, I have introduced others to the world’s varied ways of life and religious and spiritual traditions through teaching at Butler University and CTS, also serving as a pastor in the Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, and I am now delighted to be serving as CIC’s program director. John and I originally hail from Texas and met at Baylor University, but I have also lived in Michigan, Oklahoma, South Dakota, California, and Colorado. I hope you will reach out to me at deb@indycic.org.
